Love letter to Agni
Dear Agni,
When I look back at our history I see that our best days are yet to come. And I write this letter to you because I want you to get my full attention. I write this letter to you publicly, because I want others to give you more attention.
I see that we got off the wrong foot. I was overfed as a baby and as a toddler. Early on, I wasn’t taught to listen to you. I wasn’t guided in the obvious language that you communicate.
You never had a chance to get my attention. I never learned your power, your grace, your healing capacity. In fact, I never learned about you at all until Ayurveda school.
Sure, in high school I dabbled, but I was trying to control you or manipulate you. I wanted to be skinnier than my PK frame naturally embraced. You showed up strong and my will tried to out-maneuver you.
That didn’t work out so well for us either. I wasn’t taught your language until I learned the language of Ayurveda, which has so many words to articulate your nuances, and understands all that is under your command.
What I really want to say here is this: I’m sorry I’ve been a slow learner. I’m sorry I’ve disrupted your job with my neglect. I get that all you ask is my awareness, my consciousness. I get that we’re in this together, every day of every season.
And now, you are my teacher. You are my guru. No books. No people. No opinions. Just you and me.
I’m going to let you evolve my habits. Tomorrow we forge our 41st year together. I’m ready to clue into the intimacy of your conversation.
Big love,
Cate
p.s. I hope you like the picture I drew of you, Agni.
